Skiing

We have loved skiing this year. Let's just say I am the worst of the bunch, but my kids have really picked it up. Rex got new skis for Christmas and is wanting to hit the slopes any chance he gets. It has been lots of fun!

Christmas Scenes 2010

We had a fantastic Christmas. The kids were at the best ages to enjoy every ounce of it. It was jam packed with skiing, sledding, friends and family.

One of my favorite Christmas traditions...The Nativity the kids put together on Christmas Eve, with a little help from the parents of course.

Lucy and Tenley took a page out of the Pew girls book and danced their parts of the Nativity. Here they are dancing to Sarah McLachlin "Greensleeves" .

Rex wasn't dying to sing and act, but he sat, playing the part of Joseph and I noticed how into new little cousin Nellie he was.

For Rex

A few weeks ago Rex turned eight years old, and was baptized a few days later. It was such a special day for Rex and for our family. He wanted his two grandmas to speak, and they did such a sweet job. Then Lucy and Molly sang , "I Feel My Saviors Love" ....they sang it perfectly, and it was so darn cute. It was so great to have both of our families there, and many of them from out of town. We are so proud of Rex and the way he is growing up. What a great day it was.

My friend Elizabeth made a cute video for her Abby when she turned eight that I loved, and so I put this little imovie together for Rex. I know he will love having it forever.

More Kid Quotes

Lucy was trying to get me to remember a show she thought I had watched with her. I finally said "Luce, I just don't think I know what you're talking about."

She got a little exasperated with me and said "Well I do!"

Molly kept talking about getting out her 'cumbwella.'

Lucy corrected her: "Molly, it's UN-brella."

Rex: Dad, can I watch a show?

Dad: You don't want to help me make some pies?

Rex: Well . . . not necessarily.

I made some delicious Hamburger Helper the other night for dinner. The kids sat down to eat, but Lucy started sobbing when she saw it.

Lucy: (crying dramatically) I don't like this! It has BURGER in it! I can't stand BUUUURRRRRGER!"

Molly found a pair of protective work glasses of mine and put them on. Then she walked around the house loudly repeating "Welcome, Everybody!"

Dad: Are you always going to have your blankie?

Molly: Yes.

Dad: Even when you're a mommy?

Molly: I don't want to be a mommy.

Dad: Why not?

Molly: Well, who's going to be the daddy?

Dad: Well, you'll meet a boy and get married and he'll be the daddy.

Molly: I don't want to get married.

Dad: Why?

Molly: Cause I don't want to be a mommy.

Molly got a fortune cookie and was struggling to open the plastic wrapper. She finally handed it to Macy to open and said with a little frustration "I need to learn how to open things."

Lucy: Dad, Rex is hitting me.

Dad: Rex, did you hit her?

Rex: No, she's just unpredictably fragile.

Lucy, eating a plate of Au Gratin potatoes: "Wow, I looove these Rotten Potatoes. We should have Rotten Potatoes more."

For gifts for our neighbors, we bought a bunch of pineapples and delivered them around the neighborhood with a ribbon and a card. As we walked out the door delivering the first batch, Rex said "Dad! Since these are pineapples and pineapples are from Hawaii, can I say mele kalikimaka at the door when we drop them off?"

I said "sure."

He kept rehearsing his plan as we crossed the street. At the first door, he was bursting with excitement. As we heard the doorknob turning, he muttered under his breath "here goes . . ." I handed the pineapple over and said Merry Christmas. Rex said quietly in the background "mele kalikimaka" and then turned and headed down the walk. The next house he got a little more nerve and yelled it up the pathway at our neighbor, who laughed. After that, Rex was mele kalikimaka'ing everyone we saw, with great gusto, and couldn't have been happier doing it.

Molly was downstairs at her grandma's playing with her cousins. After a while, she came up and said to Macy "Mom, those kids are wasting my time."

I brought home a big wheeled briefcase this weekend to take with me to a hearing on Monday. Molly immediately took it over, wheeling it everywhere and saying she was on a trip. On Monday, I headed to the airport early Monday morning, and when I checked the briefcase to see if I had brought pens and highlighters, this is what I found in the front pocket:

Macy's sister Molly, after a little tiff with Macy, asked Rex "Rex, is there anyone that your mom fights with more than me?

Rex thought about it for a minute and said: "Well, probably Lucy."

I told Rex he had a good basketball game tonight. He said "well, I feel like it was really your coaching at practice, Dad."

Rex: (in the car, as I was doing my Bing Crosby impression along with the radio) Dad, when you sing, and when you're in the choir and stuff, you sound good. But when you sing to try to sound like someone else, you don't sound good at all.

Christmas Scenes

We are definitely in the thick of it these days. The stressful , crazy parts, and all the goodness that comes from my favorite time of the year.

And my favorite Christmas gift so far. Our new advent calendar that Amby sent me early to enjoy for the season. My kids have loooved this one.

Soccer Season

This is a little belated, but we thought it would be nice to record a little about this past soccer season. Rex and Lucy both played great seasons, on great teams. Lucy played a few years ago, but this fall was her first year back in action, and she really did well. Lucy was almost always the fastest player on the field, and towered over her team-mates by half a foot or so. It's the advantage and disadvantage of a September birthday, I guess.



It was a lot of fun to see Lucy play. She really hustled for the ball sometimes, and other times, just ran really fast to get in the vicinity of the ball, and then sort of deferred to whomever was closest to it. You could say she has a nose for the vicinity of the ball. She had one game where she scored two goals, and was verrry excited about that. It was lots of fun to go and cheer for her and her team, the Silver Thunder.

Our other soccer player is Rex. Rex likes soccer. Once again, his team was awesome, and Rex was a star. They played several competitive games this year, and these games were seriously a highlight of every Saturday, especially when they played good teams. It's a lot of fun not only to watch Rex play, completely in his element, but to watch people like Macy, Lucy, Julie, and JoLynn get into his games. Great season.



Unfortunately, it looks like I didn't get any footage of Rex's most heroic plays. We did get a little video of him in the goal though, where he played quite well.
