Run Baby Run...............

Yes, and then run again. This last weekend was the ever awaited Wasatch Back. I know, I know we are about the last to join this band wagon...everyone and their dog has done it, and talked about ,and then talked about it again. But it was big for us, and we had a blast! It is funny when you hear about something being the greatest thing ever, and you kind of can't believe that it is possible, and it even makes you want to rebel against it just a little bit too. But the Wasatch Back certainly delivers, and even though at some moment in the middle of night while we were running or trying to get a minute of sleep and we wondered "Ok, who the heck talked me into this?" it was all worth it in the end. The best part was definitely our team. We had a great car load of six, and tons of great laughs and stories to tell (we will never forget "Mike" and the McDonalds breakfast). Here are some of the great highlights of our 188 mile run:

(Just the kind of support you will get in van #1, you need a drink or a some GU, a jollyrancher perhaps? We are so there!)

(My big unexpected hill...did I tell you how bad I hate running hills?)

(Ryan yelling at his 7 1/2 mile uphill run)

A Momentous Occasion

There was much campaigning, groveling, browbeating and cajoling. There was the sense of impending defeat followed by the euphoric taste of victory. In the end, the forces of good won out over the forces of long hair.

Yes, finally, for the first time in Rex's life, he was permitted to cut most of his hair off.

Rex has had longish hair all of his life. This trend began when he had curly golden hair, and one of his parents became convinced that that hair was the foundation of everything good in this world, and could not be touched. Eventually the curls and most of the gold went away, but for some reason, the hair retained its talismanic power in the minds of the women charged with guarding Rex's head. No lock could be touched, lest the good fortune that always smiled on this family might be offended and permanently abandon us. Every haircut took place under specific instructions that trimming was permitted, but cutting would be met with draconian penalties.

But Rex and I finally decided that this summer it was time for a buzz. It took several months of build up, but we prevailed in the end.

Of course, the whole thing did not go off completely without a hitch. Note the two-tone clippings pile:

Rex and I were surprised to see that he had one part of his hair that was so sun-bleached. I said "wow, it's almost like I cut Lucy's hair too." Then we both looked at Lucy, who sat there wearing her trademarked troublemaker grin. She just couldn't resist while the scissors were out-- she did it sitting right behind me while I was cutting Rex's hair off. Apparently she didn't learn her lesson last time. At least this time she only got to a few strands of hair.

Anyway, here are the two newly coiffed haircut models doing their catwalk thing:

Nine Years Ago.....

. . . Ryan and I were married.

To celebrate we took a very last minute trip to New York. Ryan had to do a deposition there, and I tagged along to see Ali, Davis, and Melissa. Let's face it, I couldn't miss out on a trip to New York. The weather could not have been more perfect, and the company was not too shabby too. We had really yummy food each and every meal. We got a fun unexpected visit from some old friends, and stayed at this really cute upper west side hotel too. It was such a great, much needed little vacation. It was really quick, but so worth it.
